Phoenix Suns NBA 2015 News: Franchise Clears Cap Room to Pursue Aldridge

The maneuvering behind the LaMarcus Aldridge sweepstakes continue with the Phoenix Suns making the necessary moves to free up cap space for the veteran Portland Trail Blazers big man.

As reported by Yahoo Sports, the Suns unloaded three players to the Detroit Pistons to open up over seven million in cap space. The Suns sent forwards Marcus Morris and Danny Granger, along with guard Reggie Bullock to the Pistons for a 2020 second round pick.

As noted by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Suns came into free agency with $12 million in cap space. The deal with the Pistons puts their available space close to $20 million, with more than half of that number reserved for the four-year $52 million deal agreed to be given to center Tyson Chandler.

Wojnarowski points out that to free up even more room for Aldridge's maximum salary, Phoenix could work on a sign-and-trade deal involving Markieff Morris that would help them land a brand new frontcourt.

The Suns have suddenly moved in contention for Aldridge after it was reported that the Blazer big man was not too keen with what the Los Angeles Lakers sold him during their two-hour meeting.

Phoenix surprised Aldridge by bringing in Chandler to their meeting. It was previously reported that the Blazers considered signing Chandler as part of Aldridge's preferred list of supporting cast members.

Meanwhile, the Lakers may not be dead in the water in free agency just yet as league sources have told Yahoo Sports that the storied franchise will get a second meeting with Aldridge.

After Aldridge met with team representatives shortly after the NBA's free agent market opened, there were multiple reports that the sweet-shooting big came away unimpressed with the basketball side of things.

A source close to the Lakers told Yahoo Sports said the team wanted to see if "they can get it right."

According to sources familiar with Aldridge's thinking, no decision is considered imminent.
