Finch and the team are set to fulfill a mission in "Person of Interest" season 5 episode 13, the season finale. Also, series showrunners Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman revealed their thoughts on the implication of Root's death.

"Person of Interest" season 5 episode 13 is entitled "Return 0." According to Spoilers Guide, the episode will see Finch, Reese, Fusco, and Shaw start their last mission to stop Samaritan from taking down the machine and setting up his control over mankind.

In other news, "Person of Interest" showrunners Nolan and Plageman shared their insights on Root's death and how it would affect Team Machine. In an interview with TV Line, Plageman said that Root had always implored Harold Finch to make his machine more assertive in the war, adding that the character was faced with what they were up against.

Plageman also mentioned that Root was the one who made the sacrifice to save the father of The Machine and that was Harold. For the showrunner, it was true to Root's character, that her first love had been The Machine. He added that she had always believed that people had been bad code and more than anything she wanted Harold's machine to win the war.

In the same interview, Nolan said that The Machine would get a voice. The showrunner mentioned that in 2013, people had no idea on when The Machine would get a voice and how it would happen. For Nolan, that mandate had been fulfilled.

"Person of Interest" season 5 episode 13, "Return 0" (series finale), is set to air on June 21.
