People Magazine News: Kirk Douglas Death Rumors - Obituary Posted Prematurely, Famous Actor Still Alive
People Magazine, being one of the most popular and widely read magazines in the world, one might think they've made it a point to always check all of their facts. Well, they learned the the hard way this week when they published an obituary for Kirk Douglas who isn't even dead!
The magazine published the fake obituary on their website and had rumors about its validity circulating all over the web and the news. The headline of the obituary even said "DO NOT PUB." The obituary was pre-written and will be something the magazine will have on hand when he does die. He is 98-years-old and still in great condition for his age.
Many newspapers and magazines have pre-written obituaries for older actors and actresses so that when they do die they can be the first ones to go to print with it. This one however, had a time stamp from September. This is why a lot of people were really confused.
The obituary was pleasing and highlighted all of Douglas' works and his life. It also highlighted that he was nominated for three Oscars.
Social media sites like Twitter were criticizing People Magazine about the premature obituary. However, something like this has happened in 2008, when Bloomberg made the mistake of posting news of Steve Jobs' death on their site three years before he died.
On that note, People Magazine has yet to make a comment on the premature obituary. We are very glad that Kirk Douglas is still alive and well and we hope that he has many more years ahead of him.
