Fans will get to know more about Ethan as he and Hecate struggle to endure life in the stark desert wasteland in the 5^th episode of "Penny Dreadful" season 3.

Ethan is the only one who can save Vanessa, who just found out in episode 4 that Dracula and his brother Lucifer were fighting for her soul.

The official trailer for the upcoming episode opens with a scene showing Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Dr. Henry Jekyll making a pit stop before moving across the dessert to find Ethan and Hecate. The two doctors find out the river has dried out, so they travel across the wilderness without any water source. Meanwhile, the daughter of Evelyn asks what happened to Ethan and Hecate and why men are sent to the desert to search for them. Back in the wilderness, Hecate tells Ethan about his guilt and tells him that the only way to emancipate himself is by embracing his sins.

The trailer also shows Ethan admitting Hecate that he will send his father to hell. Ethan's father comes with men in horseback and points a gun at him. Kaetney also reveals to Sir Malcolm about the risk of losing Ethan, telling him that "the darkness will never end." Towards the end of the video, an excited Hecate is shown with the gunslinger having blood on his lips. The witch draws symbols and chants, while the men sent to find them shoot at the sand.

Based on the trailer, it seems that the mission of Sir Malcolm and the old Apache in the upcoming episode is going to be tricky. While Ethan is the only one who can save Vanessa, a union with Hecate also means welcoming a period of darkness.

"Penny Dreadful" season 5, titled "The World is Our Hell," airs on Showtime on May 29 at 10:00 P.M.
