'Penny Dreadful' News: Fans Still Wait For Spinoff After Series Set To An End?
While it has been confirmed that a fourth season is no longer possible, fans of the "Penny Dreadful" series hope for a spinoff at least.
"Penny Dreadful" season 3 ended with the death of Vanessa Ives, but fans are still hoping for a renewal of the series. However, the show's executive producer has confirmed that a follow-up season will no longer happen. Despite the announcement, speculations about a possible spinoff continue.
In the season 3 finale, the death of the main character was followed by the words "THE END," leaving viewers in total shock. According to the show's executive producer, the death of Vanessa Ives was where the series was really going to head.
"I realized that's where the third season was going to head. It was going to head to Vanessa sacrificing herself and reuniting with God," "Penny Dreadful" executive producer John Logan said in his interview with Entertainment Weekly.
During the interview, Logan was joined by Showtime CEO David Nevins, who said that he already knew that season 3 would be the end of it since Logan had informed him about it.
"John came in and said, 'This needs to be the end of Vanessa Ives. I know exactly how I want to end it. And when Vanessa Ives, when the character, is done, I think the show is done," said Nevins.
Meanwhile, actress Billie Piper who played Brona Croft in the supernatural drama said during her interview with The Guardian that she was upset about the abrupt ending of the show.
"As actors, it was pretty upsetting too. But I think in a way it sort of worked--everyone's story got tied up, and no one was expecting it to be the end. So they sort of won in every way. It was just very sudden," said the actress.
Petitions to continue "Penny Dreadful" continue to make the rounds on the internet. Fans remain hopeful that a spinoff will happen since the request has not been denied yet.
