'Pacific Rim 2' Release Date, Latest News & Rumors: 'Pacific Rim: Maelstrom' Production On Its Way
After years of rewrites, "Pacific Rim 2" is finally well on its way.
Latest updates on the film reveal that production has finally begun after years of being up in the air. Titled "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom," the second installment of the science fiction blockbuster currently has cameras rolling in Sydney, Australia.
Meanwhile, Nick Tarabay is reportedly the newest addition to the ever growing cast of the upcoming film. Tarabay, who played Ashur in the hit series "Spartacus," is speculated to be in Jaegers as a pilot. While details about his role remain scarce, fans of "Pacific Rim" speculate that his role is not just some random guy who does not drive gigantic robots.
Tarabay is known for a wide range of recurring and guest roles both in TV shows and films. Since he previously worked with "Pacific Rim 2" director Steven S. De Knight in "Spartacus," some speculate that it might have been DeKnight who talked to Tarabay to become part of the upcoming sequel.
As of this writing, the producers of the film keep mum about the plot for "Pacific Rim 2." However, there are reports that the film will see the character of lead star John Boyega trade in his Lightsabers for Jaegers. Also joining Tarabay and Boyega in the cast are Scott Eastwood and Jing Tian.
The first "Pacific Rim" movie was produced and directed by Guillermo del Toro. While he is still producing the sequel, he has already handed over the reins to its new director, Steven S. DeKnight.
"Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" hits theaters on Feb. 23, 2017.
