Owl City Announces The "Cinematic Tour" With Special Guest, Relient K Frontman Matt Thiessen & The Earthquakes
Multi-platinum selling recording artist Owl City is announcing the "Cinematic Tour" which is hitting venues in 24 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The tour will be Owl City's first North American tour in over three years and comes in support of his upcoming sixth full-length album and first independent offering, Cinematic, which is slated for release on June 1.
"After spending the last few years working in my studio, it's finally time to hit the road," says Owl City. "I'm excited to pack my bag, grab my guitar, and go on a journey that will take me around the country. See you on the road!"
Joining the artist on all tour dates is his friend and fellow collaborator, special guest Matthew Thiessen & The Earthquakes. Thiessen is best known as frontman for the band Relient K, but also for his collaborative work on Owl City's 2009 breakout album Ocean Eyes, where he is featured as guest vocalist on the single "Fireflies," which to date has sold over 20 million copies globally in addition to receiving five-times RIAA platinum certification and going to No. 1 in 26 countries.
The "Cinematic Tour" kicks off Sept. 13 in Milwaukee, Wis., before wrapping a month later on Oct. 14 in Columbus, Ohio, and will bring a slew of new music from Cinematic and the trio of three-song EPs, dubbed Reels, which have preceded the new album.
Describing the upcoming album, Owl City says it is "...a personal narrative, as if a film was made from key scenes throughout my life. My hope is there's a way to teach yourself to recognize and appreciate what I like to call, 'movie magic moments,' so you don't miss out on them. That's what the title alludes to. You have an audience cheering you on. Everybody is in your corner. Do your best for them."
Presale for the upcoming tour started Monday with public onsale beginning this Friday, April 27, at 10.00 a.m. local time. Find out more about Owl City by visiting his official website, or following him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
