'Overwatch' TBS News: Sets Up $300K ‘Overwatch’ Open; Tournament Draws Fans, Players

In line with Blizzard Entertainment's "Overwatch," it is revealed that the title is set to have a $300,000 tournament.

Turner Broadcasting's new esports organization matchmaking Eleague and tournament-organization tool Facely announced that they are working on a tournament for Blizzard's "Overwatch," Venture Beat has learned. As per the publication, the tournament is called "Overwatch" Open, which makes the game the next largest title in the esports history, with an $892 million market coverage.

As per the report, the companies have set $300,000 as the prize allocation for the forthcoming "Overwatch" tournament. The battle are set to be done online and is set to commence on July 23 for the teams in North American and European territories.TBS and Twitch are set to broadcast the tournament, which is set to end in the Grand Finals on Sept. 30. Also, the overall tournament champion is bound to receive $100,000.

"Overwatch" global esports director Nate Nazer shared his thoughts on the upcoming gtournament. In a statement, as cited by Venture Beat, Nazer said that they had been impressed with what Turner and WME-IMG and FaceIt had accomplished with Eleague and they were excited about seeing "Overwatch" on the Eleague stage.

For Nazer, the "Overwatch" Open would be a great opportunity to introduce the TBS and online audiences to the "Overwatch" players who were competing at the highest level in Europe and North America.

As per Engadget, it was not the first time Eleague has arranged a tournament for an iconic game title, as "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" served as a sample for fans and games in May. It is assumed that "Overwatch" would easily attract participants and viewers with its popularity in the gaming realm.

Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, "Overwatch" was initially released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows on May 24.
