‘Overwatch’ Beta Official Release Date: New Blizzard FPS Beta Test Launches Oct. 27
The official date for the 'Overwatch' Beta has finally been announced to the excitement of gamers everywhere. In an official Blizzard post, the release date for the 'Overwatch' Beta test has been slated for October 27.
According to the official Battle.net post, the public Beta test hopes to accomplish two things. First, the developers would like gather some initial feedback on how the game is balanced, how it plays, and whether or not it's fun.
The next thing the 'Overwatch' Beta testers will help with is the functionality of the game. Basically, Blizzard is looking to work out all the bugs and kinks in the game to polish it before its official release.
For those that may not know, the Beta test will release in two forms. Firstly, a closed Beta test will be open to a select group of gamers that will act as the core group in the testing phase. These players will be collected from those who have opted in and signed up for the 'Overwatch' Beta.
However, despite the selective nature of this Beta test, the official post reads, "In addition, we'll be conducting a number of Beta Test Weekends with wider groups of players when it's time to break out the big guns."
Evidently, the Open Beta Weekends will test the "floodgates" so to speak to see if the servers will be able to handle the massive influx of players the game is sure to garner. The "stress" test will gauge to see if the dedicated 'Overwatch' servers will be able to handle a massive onslaught of connections.
While the Open Beta Weekends are sure to be fun and beneficial to the completion of the game, the game will not be consistently accessible for play, hence "Beta Test Weekends."
Beyond that, the post states that the number of heroes, maps, and gameplay modes, will be restricted as the main focus of the test is on server strength.
Another interesting point the post makes is that 'Overwatch' will only be available on Windows operating systems at first. Gamers should be sure to check their emails regularly to see if they've been selected for the Closed Beta or a Beta Test Weekends.
