‘Overwatch’ Bastion News & Trailer: Animated Short Leaks Bird-Robot Friendship

Blizzard Entertainment has released an animated short for "Overwatch Bastion" and it sees how a robot became friends with a bird.

The clip opens with a forest, which is comparable to the ones people can see in fairytales. It is followed by a yellow bird flying, holding a twig in its mouth. It is assumed that the aves is building its nest. Then, it pecked on a metalloid object that made it curious, until it booted up. Startled, the bird flew up above and watched the robot Bastion, which is covered by moss, walk.

Further scenes see Bastion wander through the forest, cross a tree log, and see a deer. He also witnesses the rain, as well as the return of the yellow bird from the earlier scene. The robot also sees more about mother earth, such as the crystal clear water, the crawling worn, and the green garden where the bird is building its nest.

Following serene moments, Bastion hears a woodpecker peck a tree, with a sound comparable to gun shots in a war. Alerted, the robot tries to find where it is and hearing the woodpecker triggers him to fire his weapon. After the shots, the robot sees a destroyed bird nest and a yellow feather, along with ruined trees.

Saddened by what happened, Bastion leaves the forest and sees a city, which presumably where he belongs. While walking, he sees other robots like him, which appears to be dump on the grassland. The robot touched it to obtain information on what possibly happened. From there, he learns the past, which involved war between machines and men.

Being able to recall things, Bastion becomes mad, as indicated by a red light, and arms himself while going to the city. The yellow bird reappeared, carrying a twig. The angry robot calms down and decides to go back to the forest with his new friend.

As per Eurogamer, the "Overwatch" clip was simple, beautiful, and touching, even though it did not see any details about the new characters in the title.

Blizzard's "Overwatch" was released for the Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 4 on May 24.
