Oscars 2016 Winners, Highlights: 'Room' Star Brie Larson Gets 'Best Actress' Title

In line with the Oscar Awards, "Titanic" actor Leonardo DiCaprio won as best actor while "Room" star Brie Larson won as best actress.

According to US Magazine, DiCaprio won his first Oscar award for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's 2015 adventure drama thriller film "The Revenant." the actor reportedly received a standing ovation as he received his accolade. The "Titanic" fans were pleased when the camera focused on the actor's co-star Kate Winslet, who clapped her hands and held back her tears.

In his speech, DiCaprio expressed his gratitude to his parents, the film crew, and also frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese. The "Titanic" actor also talked about global warming, an issue that is quite distant to winning his first Oscar Award. DiCaprio said that climate change was real; it was happening and it was the most urgent threat facing our species. He stressed that the earth should not be taken for granted and he did not take the night for granted.

The event serves as the 88th recognition to outstanding performances of actors and actresses. Aside from DiCaprio, Larson also won the best actress Oscar for Lenny Abrahamson's drama film "Room."

"Les Mserables" actor Eddie Redmayne, who was last year's best actor for "The Theory of Everything," presented the accolade to the actress. In a statement, Larson expressed her gratitude to the fans for going to the theaters and seeing their films. As she preceded her walk to the stage, Larson hugged her co-star Jacob Tremblay.

The Oscars 2016 was hosted by Chris Rock, in spite of calls asking him to boycott the event, according to Telegraph UK. As per the publication, insiders said that Rock had completely made his opening monologue in the wake of the event, which could be a center of embarrassment for the Academy's voting members.

Along with DiCaprio and Larson, the Oscars 2016 was also attended by "The Hunger Games" actress Jennifer Lawrence and "Cinderella" actress Cate Blanchett.
