Season 3 of Orange is the New Black on Netflix now and while fans are ready to jump into the drama that will inevitably brew between the inmates, there is more to see on screen than that.

Footwear News spoke with the cast's costume designer, Jenn Rogien who is also known for her work on Girls, to get the behind the scenes information about the footwear on the show, including the boots and orange jumpsuits, of course.

For the girls' footwear looks, Rogien says that the boots that the women wear are standard issue prison boots purchased directly from a prison supplier.

She jokes at how the women have a variety of reactions to wearing the boots.

"The actors are very divided: Some of them love the boots' clunky and powerful feel and others hate them for the same reason," says Rogien. "It's funny to see the range of reactions because it's a real prison boot."

When it comes to flashback scenes, Footwear News asked Rogien whether this was her chance to shine in terms of brand name foot wear.

She stated that in the first season for a few of Piper's flashbacks, she used some out of season Manolo Blahniks which were found at DSW.

"She had a lot of money then and it was the right shoe," states Rogien. "For her contemporary style, we ended up using a lot of Frye."

In terms of non inmates, Rogien says that Larry had a large shoe closet and Fig also had some priceless shoe moments, always featured in an elegant shoe.
