Online Gamer Faces Up to Five Years Jail Time after Sending SWAT Team to Live Streamer's Home

19-year-old Brandon Wilson of Las Vegas was recently taken into custody and had his computers seized on charges of "swatting."

Swatting is a criminal practice that is gaining familiarity in the online gaming community in which an individual hoaxes a police call to a player's residence address that they've acquired through hacking their IP address. The hoaxer is usually able to mask their location and make it appear as if they are calling from within the victim's home.

"Brandon Wilson, known as 'Famed God' in some online communities, faces up to five years in jail if found guilty. It is alleged that, in July last year, he made a bogus call to Chicago police that convinced the force to raid a house in Illinois," writes Gamespot.

Twitch user, Joshua Peters has recently voiced his swatting experience in one of his live streams for the game 'Runescape'. His family was victimized because of the incident.

"I had police point a gun at my little brothers because of you," Peters stated, "They could have been shot, they could have died because you chose to SWAT my stream."

"I don't give a s**t about what you have against me, or what I did to you. For that, I am at a loss for words. Your gripe is with me so let it be with me and do not involve my family in any way, shape or form with this. They don't deserve that."

The culprit hasn't been confirmed in Peters' case. Wilson, now awaiting extradition in Illinois, can face up to five years if convicted.
