OnePlus One Update News: Oxygen OS will Arrive in March, But Not as an OTA Update
Chinese tech manufacturer OnePlus took to Reddit's 'Ask Me Anything' on Friday to talk about its latest smartphone interface nicknamed Oxygen OS and revealed that the operating system will be released next month - some time in March.
According to Tech Radar, while the upcoming software will be available to people owning the OnePlus One smartphone of the company, they will not be getting it as an over-the-air (OTA) update, but will be required to download it manually.
The website quotes Carl, OnePlus co-founder, saying, "For the OnePlus One, it will likely not be an OTA, but rather a choice for users who want to try something new and are willing to flash it themselves."
In fact, OnePlus owners will be happy to know that the tech firm has announced its commitment to support Oxygen OS for two years on the device, which means they will still have decent life in their handsets.
However, people who might be hoping to get experience the action on any other device will be disheartened, because Carl said, "We're optimizing the stack specifically for the OPO hardware so you may have the best experience."
Talking about the features of the upcoming software, one Redditor, who uses the handle 'DoubleFist01,' asked One keen Redditor - who goes by the charming handle 'DoubleFist01' - asked the important question "Which main features will be in Oxygen OS?"
In response, a staff member from OnePlus replied, "We named our OS 'Oxygen' because we want it to be something that works for you in the background and make sure the essential things are done well."
He went on to explain, "We'll optimize it for our unique hardware and have added features like the ability to modify the quick settings tile layout & quick unlock (through gestures)," adding, "They're not necessarily groundbreaking features but, especially for our first release, we just want to focus on small optimizations that make your life easier."
What is good is that OnePlus has promised that the software will not come with any bloatware.
