Android 5.0 Lollipop on OnePlus One Update Release Date News: Handset to Run New OxygenOS ROM

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is expected to be available for the OnePlus One smartphone later this month.

The OnePlus phone will run a ROM called the OxygenOS. It's expected to make phone use more straightforward and customizable.

"OnePlus promises that OxygenOS will be 'open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features'. Last month, the company announced that it would introduce its own ROM and as OnePlus is wont to do, it held a contest for the best name. All of this came after Cyanogen signed an exclusive deal in India to drive a line of cheap Micromax handsets. As a result, the Cyanogen flavored OnePlus One has run into legal issues in the country," writes Phone Arena.

Some leaked photos have arisen recently on the OnePlus's OxygenOS design and it appears that they've gone the route of simple but complimenting.

"From the pictures, it looks like the company will focus on a flat UI design. The icons are flat and use simple shapes with a lot of different colors. The icons are all categorized according to their use, so you have a section of gaming apps, tools, and one for even social media," writes Gizmo China.

There isn't much information seen in the app through the photos, but it's most likely because it's still in beta stage.

A alpha version of the OxygenOS has already been released but it doesn't reveal anymore on the ROM than is currently known. Users will get to understand the features in greater detail by February 12th, when the update is expected to be released.
