OnePlus 2 Price & Release Date News: New Handset to Cost More than OnePlus One, Launch Likely in July
Here is some good news for people who are eagerly awaiting the release of OnePlus 2. MyDrivers claimed that sources revealed that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus will possibly release its upcoming flagship device in July.
According to IB Times, the speculated release date is in line with the commitment of OnePlus to release OnePlus 2 during the third quarter of 2015. While the company itself is yet to announce a specific release date for the device, now the time frame has been narrowed down to July as opposed to a full quarter.
MyDrivers' sources further revealed that it is expected the OnePlus 2 will carry a price tag of 1,999 Chinese Yuan ($322). According to Phandroid, this means the OnePlus 2 launch price will be slightly higher compared to its predecessor, OnePlus One, which carried a price tag of $300 for the 16 GB base variant at its launch. However, the OnePlus 2 is likely to be retailed at $349 in international markets -$100 more compared to the current price of OnePlus One.
Nevertheless, the sources did not mention if the speculated price of OnePlus 2 is for any specific variant, since OnePlus may possibly launch no less than two models with different storage options. It is possible that the rumored price is for the premium variant, which would make it attractive for customers looking for flagship devices. However, it is also a possible that the OnePlus 2 basic model itself may cost $349.
As of now, OnePlus has been successful in keeping the specifics of the device a closely guarded secret. Earlier rumors suggested that the device will pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 SoC, 3GB RAM, house a 13 MP primary camera, sport 5.5-inch Full HD screen and be equipped with a 3,300mAh battery unit.
It may be noted that OnePlus will continue to pursue the company's invite-only sales model and the upcoming device will not be available for open sale.
