Many fans have shed tears this week as One Direction band member Zayn Malik announced that he would be leaving the immensely popular group for good on Wednesday, March 25.

Since then, a couple of fan videos have surfaced, showing Malik in tears during his last official concert on March 18 in Hong Kong. These videos suggest that Malik had been planning on quitting for quite a while.

During this performance, Malik appeared to be "apathetic" and "struggled to smile even once," according to a reviewer for South China Morning Post.

Last week it was reported that Malik would only be taking a break from the group's On the Road Again Tour, citing stress and other health issues as the reason. However, the tour will continue, it will just involve one less member.

Hollywood Life had the chance to post some of Malik's last words on the matter.

"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined," he wrote, "But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22 year old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."

The rest of the band, Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall released a statement after the news of Malik's leave was announced.

"We're really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future," wrote the band. "The past five years have been beyond amazing, we've gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We're looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour."
