One Direction Latest News, Rumors: British Boy Band to ‘Disband’ in March to Focus on Solo Projects?
If latest reports are to be believed, the popular British boyband, One Direction, are contemplating to disband temporarily for a year to pursue solo projects. According to a source close to the band, the boys are not splitting permanently and plan get together again in future.
Quoting a report by Dan Wootton of The Sun newspaper, IB Times says that a source close to One Direction supposedly said, "The guys have been together for five years, which is an incredible run for any boyband. They fully deserve to have at least a year to work on their own projects."
The source added, "There is absolutely no bad blood between them and they are all 100 per cent behind the decision. It is definitely not a split and they fully intend to get back together at some time in the future."
As the One Direction boys take on independent projects, the band will not tour their upcoming fifth album. In fact, now their final show will be at Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Oct. 31. It's believed that the decision to break up was arrived at during critical talks in London last weekend.
For the uninitiated, One Direction were formed on the TV talent show 'The X Factor' in 2010 comprising Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and former band member Zayn Malik. Malik's departure from the band in March came as a shock and almost made the fans hysterical. Nevertheless, this is not believed to be a factor in the short-term split.
Recently, during an interview with Free Radio, Liam Payne observed that the group was in need of a break from their challenging touring schedule and suggested that they were planning to take some time off after the release of their fifth studio album later this year.
The "Drag Me Down" singer, clarified: "You know, I think everyone needs a little bit of a break now, and a sit down and a stop, to kind of take in all the great things that've happened."
According to reports, Payne is keen on working on solo tracks and producing music in addition to turning DJ. On the other hand, it is said that Harry Styles will be a break-out star, launching a solo music career. In fact, even Hollywood is courting Styles with Harvey Weinstein hailing his "star potential." In an interview with Mail Online, Weinstein said, "He's like Errol Flynn, he's got that swashbuckling charm. Definite star potential. I think he'd be great. No question."
Earlier, Weinstein had offered the Styles a role in his movie 'Tulip Fever,' featuring a star-studded cast including Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz and Zach Galifianakis. However, Styles was compelled to reject the offer owing to touring commitments.
Meanwhile, it is believed that Niall Horan is also keen to launch a solo career, and has been writing with friend Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber. Louis Tomlinson, in the meantime, is interested in following the footsteps of music mogul Simon Cowell by launching a 'Be in the Band' search, aiming to find talented female musicians to form a girl group.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of the reports from One Direction members or the boyband's representatives. The news, meanwhile, is quickly trending on social media with fans expressing their doubts over such a "temporary" split.
