Oklahoma City Thunder NBA 2015 News: Westbrook Gets 7th Triple-Double of Season, Player of the Week Honors

Arguably, there is nobody in the world playing better basketball right now than Oklahoma City Thunder dynamo Russell Westbrook. He proved that point again Sunday against the Toronto Raptors, notching his seventh triple-double of the season with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high tying 17 assists to lead the Thunder to a 108-104 victory.

The reigning All-Star MVP has had five triple doubles in the last six games, and has upped his career total to 15.

Recently, he was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played March 2 through March 8. During that span, Westbrook averaged a triple double with 40.7 points (league leading), 11.3 rebounds (fifth in the conference), 11.3 assists (third in the West), along with three steals per game (second-best in the conference).

He was also named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Month in February. Since the All-Star break, Westbrook has been averaging 34.3 points, 102 rebounds, and 11.4 assists.

"He's playing unbelievable basketball right now. The man is unbelievable, and he's pretty much carrying the team right now," said fellow All-Star Kyle Lowry, who Westbrook thoroughly outplayed Sunday.

The Thunder are clinging on to the last playoff spot in the West, holding a slim half-game lead over the New Orleans Pelicans that recently got back from injury franchise cornerstone Anthony Davis.

Westbrook has had to do much of the heavy lifting for a Thunder team that has only seen reigning MVP Kevin Durant in uniform for just 27 games this season. Durant is still recovering from a procedure done on the same foot he had surgery on in the offseason.

He was spotted Thursday going through a shooting drill during shoot around, but has not yet participated in a full practice. While there has yet to be a definitive timetable for his return, Durant has been quoted saying there is "no doubt" he will return before the end of the regular season.
