Oklahoma City Thunder NBA 2015 News: Kevin Durant Expected Back Despite Injuries?
Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder missed the first six weeks of the season after having surgery on his right foot, and after having another surgery on the same foot to alleviate discomfort; he will be missing time yet again, as announced by Thunder general manager Sam Presti.
"Some pain in or around that cuboid bone is not unusual," he said, "It's actually somewhat expected during the recovery process. But in Kevin's case, it wasn't scaling down the level we had anticipated or the level the physicians had anticipated. So the next step would be to look at some other alternatives, which led us to the procedure."
The procedure Durant underwent back in October was to repair a Jones fracture. The screw inserted at the fifth metatarsal has been rubbing against the cuboid bone, which has cause the reigning MVP soreness and discomfort, ESPN reported.
Said Presti, "The good news is that the fracture itself is healing excellently and from what the doctors conveyed to us, we continue to feel very good about the prognosis moving forward."
"Most important to note here is the initial injury is progressing as anticipated and now what we're waiting to see is how the soreness is able to be accommodated. We do anticipate him being able to play during the regular season and then move forward," he added.
Durant, who is averaging 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 27 games this season also missed two weeks in December due to a sprained right ankle, and another four games in January due to a sprained left big toe.
Before this season, his seventh, he has only missed 16 games in his career.
The Thunder's game against the Denver Nuggets, which they won 119-94, was the 29th game Durant has missed in 2014-2015.
