Nvidia New Graphics Card News: Titan X 'World's Fastest' GPU Unveiled at GTC 2015
On Tuesday, Nvidia announced that their new GPU would be their fastest and most powerful one to date. The Titan X was unveiled at the GPU Technology Conference 2015 (GTU), and according to The Wall Street Journal, the GPU will mainly be used to render images in video games.
The high-end graphics chip holds eight billion transistors and 336.5GB/s of memory bandwidth. It contains 12 GB of RAM and combines 3,072 processing cores for 7 teraflops of data.
According to The Inquirer, its predecessor, the Titan Z GPU has 5.760 cores, 12 GB of memory and eight TFLOPS performance. The combination of the two would hold a stunning graphic and performance system for any user.
Not just for gaming, the GPU is also good for big businesses and those who need to store a lot of information on their computers. It would also be a good addition for anyone who is interested in or devoted to machine science or Deep Learning.
During the unveiling a clip was released to show just who stunning the graphics are. "Think of the best cinema effects you've seen over the last two years, [the Titan X and Unreal Engine 4] rivals it and shows us where industry is going and where we are going," said Nvidia's chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang. "It makes graphics more beautiful than ever and tells a story that can only be told in a way with computer graphics."
Huang made the announcement during the day's events. He said that the Titan X would allow one scientific application that takes 43 days with current GPUs to be completed in just three days.
"It is utterly life-changing," he said, The thing "will pay for itself in an afternoon."
The Titan X is priced at $999, half the cost of the Titan Z which was priced at $3,000.
