The two new Lumia phones were revealed at the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain which featured better looking equivalents for the old Lumia 630 and Nokia's own phablet, Lumia 1320. Both models have the same innards with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, 1GB worth of RAM, 8GB built-in storage quite expandable up to 128GB, a 720p screen resolution and dual sim card option.
Despite the inner similarities, the 640 retains the plastic back housing while the 640 XL sports a matte finish back. There is also a huge gap between the 640 and 640 XL in terms of size, boasting 5 inch screen and 5.7 inch screen, respectively. While the 640 camera mainly relies on an 8 MP rear cam and a 1 MP front cam in contrast to the beefed up 640 XL's Carl Zeiss trademark camera with 13 MP at the back and 8 MP up front. Lastly, the 640 carries 2500 mAh battery while the bigger version of it has a 3000 mAH all in its pack.
Aside from all technical perks, users can enjoy the free subscription to Office 365 that is available on both Lumias which they can use on their tablets, PC, and Mac.
While there has been no targeted date when the phones will be launched into the US market, Microsoft has started to do its pre-order campaign in the UK putting a £170 price for Lumia 640, also with varied and cheaper prices under different UK Telco subscription. As for the 640 XL, Microsoft would be handing this over to online sales and price it at £219.
