Nintendo Wii U's Disappointing Sales Attributed To Marketing Mistake? Zelda Breathes New Life Into Console

Ever since the release of the Nintendo Wii U, the Japanese video game company has been wracked with one bad news after another: and everything all boils down to marketing failure.

Slash Gear reports that the overriding reason why the Nintendo Wii U wasn't widely successful, is because the company's marketing department failed to impress upon consumers that it's a very different console compared to the previous Nintendo Wii.

The lack of third-party developers is also one of the reasons why Nintendo failed to attract new buyers. Possibly, the news about the upcoming release of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" might inject new life into hardware and software sales for the Nintendo Wii U, although that's still up in the air.

The dearth of creative names for consoles and handhelds is solely the responsibility of the marketing department. The close resemblance in the names between flagships-Wii to Wii U, DS to 2DS and 3DS, for instance-is very confusing for some consumers.

The Nintendo NX, meanwhile, appears to be separating itself from the pack based on the rumors that are coming out. However, the website warned that if the marketing department is not doing its homework, the success of the new console is not guaranteed.

In other news, Nintendo Life reports that Tumble, a mini-game for "Minecraft," may be coming to Nintendo Wii U with the rolling out of a new update. The report said that the mini-game could be referring to the Spleef, which could prove a popular addition to the already very popular title.
