Nintendo NX News, Release Date: Controller Patent Hints Future Video Game Console

A Nintendo controller patent hinted at a possible controller design of the highly anticipated Nintendo NX video game console.

The patent is reportedly discovered online by NeoGAF forum member Disorientator. On Dec. 10, the forum member said that in line with rumors saying that Nintendo would use Sharp's free-form display technology for one of their future projects, a patent application had surfaced.

Disorientator also mentioned that the patent featured an elliptical touch-screen that covered the entirety of the device's top area. It is also noted that while the patent's specific design or setup would not lead to a possible final version of a product, the main point raised was the free-form display.

The patent abstract title is "Game Apparatus and Information Processing Apparatus." It can be noted that the device is set to be a non-limiting example information processing apparatus, which has a housing. The first part of the housing is formed in an elliptical form in front view.

One surface of the main portion also comprises a display panel and a touch panel, with holes in the left and right end portions of the two panels. Through the two holes are two operation sticks and an area barring the main tops of the sticks becomes a display area in front view.

The patent is also assumed to be an indication of a future Nintendo console, since the design is close to the current design of Nintendo's Wii U Gamepad, according to Tech Times. While this may be part of console user's speculations, it is possible to see future Nintendo consoles bear the said design.

The much anticipated Nintendo NX video game console is rumored to be released in 2016.
