Nintendo NX Release Date News, Specs: Gaming Company Playing Coy On Next-Gen Console?
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Nintendo's next-gen console, code-named NX, but the gaming company has been taking its sweet time to give some details on the specs or at least validate all the rumors spreading around.
Just before his untimely death last year, Nintendo's CEO Santoru Iwata had confirmed that they are indeed experimenting with a gaming platform featuring a "brand-new concept."
During that time, he promised that news about the specs and release date of Nintendo NX would be coming out of the woodwork by 2016. But so far there's nothing. It could be because it's still too early in the year for the company to be elaborating on the details of the project.
PC Advisor speculated that the release date for the Nintendo NX would probably be this year considering the slumping figures of the Wii console, which only sole 10 million units in almost three years.
There were rumors that the Nintendo NX would start shipping in July, but Forbes believes that the release date is too early.
"This insanely fast schedule does not seem like Nintendo's style, even if they are scrambling to replace the Wii U," it said. "It's incredibly unlikely that Nintendo debuts the NX before fall 2016, and it seems like 2017 would be an even better fit."
For now, however, there are no rumored specs for the Nintendo NX, but Know Your Mobile is claiming that it's going to be at par with Xbox One and PS4 in terms of hardware to attract third-party gaming titles.
Apart from the unique controller, "the NX could abandon an optical drive and go totally digital," said the site, adding that it's a sound move to cut costs and make the console smaller.
