Nintendo NX News, Rumors: Upcoming New Console to Release In July 2016

A very mysterious release from Nintendo is set to hit shelves in July, but it hasn't been confirmed if the device will be an add-on to the Wii-U, or a standalone console.

Sales for the Wii-U console has suffered ever since its release and it isn't expected the company would totally abandon its most recent next-gen console to just release another one with very late marketing.

"It's still unclear exactly what the Nintendo NX is. Nintendo describes it as a "dedicated games platform," but also as a "brand new concept." It has been suggested it is a combination of games console and handheld, but I doubt Nintendo would want to combine the two and risk its very lucrative handheld business. Whatever the case, we have no more than a year before we know exactly what Nintendo's next hardware play is," writes Geek.com.

A reveal for the product should take place early 2016 which will then hopefully give consumers a full scope of what the product really is, thereby creating excitement for it. It is then suspected that the product will launch in July.

"July 2016 is the month we should expect the Nintendo NX to hit store shelves. This isn't an official confirmation from Nintendo, it's what the supply chain has been told. Nintendo has apparently asked its manufacturing partners to perform a pilot production run in October of this year. If that goes to plan, the NX will be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics with a July 2016 launch in mind and production hitting 20 million in the first year," writes Geek.com.

Given the lack of time Nintendo is giving the Nintendo NX to soak into the public, its not suspected that it will be a standalone console.
