Nintendo News: Sales Decreases, But Overall Profit Increases
Nintendo sales continue to decrease but the overall profit still managed to increase to $364 million (38 billion yen) after the Japanese company sold a large part of its stake in the Seattle Mariners.
The sales, however, continues to be bad news for Nintendo as it recorded a decrease in sales of 33% from April to September 2016. Pokemon Go was the big winner for the company although it's not clear how much the game contributed to the profit increase.
In a statement, the company said that the game "led to increased sales of software in the Pokemon series released in the past and drove the Nintendo 3DS family hardware sales growth, particularly outside of Japan."
The Nintendo Wii U sales continue to decrease, recording a 53% plunge in hardware with 560,000 total units sold and 33% decline in software with just 8.3 million units. A large chunk of the blame went to no hit titles for the period as opposed to last year when it had "Super Mario Maker" and "Splatoon."
The Nintendo 3DS, however, continued to perform for the company as it contributed to the profit increase as hardware noted a 19% increase in sales with 2.71 million units sold, while on the software side, the company broke even with 19.23 million units disposed
This is nothing new, however, as Nintendo noted a sales decrease for the fifth straight financial year now. That's probably why it's drumming up hype for its Nintendo Switch in order to reverse the trend and record a profit increase.
