Nintendo 3DS XL Release Date, Price, News: New Device in Series Launches on Feb. 13 in US

The new Nintendo 3DS XL's release date has finally been confirmed for the U.S. Gamers will be able to get their hands on the new handheld system on February 13th, in red or black, although other colors have also been announced.

On that note, the new 3DS will be priced at $200 in the United States.

"The New Nintendo 3DS comes with various hardware improvements over the original model, which first launched in March 2011. It features a small C-Stick next to its face buttons, which effectively works as a second analog stick," writes Gamespot.

The upgraded hardware will allow the system to run faster along with enabling the use of amiibos. The new model will also be adding two new shoulder buttons, ZL and ZR.

Gamers that prefer to use the regular model instead of the new XL may not be able to from the lack of its release in the U.S.

"However, there appears to be no existing plan to release the regular-sized, non-XL systems in North America. These smaller models, which come with the same hardware spec, are unique insofar as they support custom faceplates. Back in October, these smaller versions shipped alongside the New Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan, but Nintendo has not mentioned any plan to launch them in the US," writes Gamespot.

Nintendo of America recently released a statement as to why U.S. consumers won't see a regular-sized new 3DS:

"Different territories make their own business decisions regarding individual products and timing. We think New Nintendo 3DS XL makes the most sense for our market. Nintendo makes different systems at different price points for a whole range of consumers, and New Nintendo 3DS XL simply expands those choices even further."

However Nintendo is hosting two special launches in the U.S. and Europe, where a "Majora's Mask" edition of the system and a "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" edition can be made available for consumers. These special edition 3DS's will either come pre-installed with the respective game, or come pre-packaged with them.
