Nintendo 2015 News: Game Developer Set to Ship Nintendo 3DS XL Units to U.S. on Feb. 13

A promotional poster for Nintendo's upcoming New 3DS XL may have inadvertently leaked the handheld's release date, which was allegedly set to be launched in North America on Feb. 13.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL was first announced in August during the 2014 Nintendo Direct video briefing and then subsequently went on sale in Australia and Japan late last year. Now it's set to come out in the United States and a poster that appeared on NeoGAF last week showed the details of the said launch.

The handheld boasts a lot of new features, such as additional ZR and ZL shoulder buttons, an analog nub, integrated NFC support for the Amiibo, improved 3D effects, replaceable cover plates and a faster central processing unit.

The rumored launch via the NeoGAF poster came a day prior to this year's Nintendo Direct video briefing, where Nintendo eventually confirmed the news of the launch.

It has also been confirmed that some games, such as "Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D" and "Super Smash Bros.," will receive enhanced controls because of the new additions to the handset. Also, there will be a few new games that can only be played on the upcoming handset, such as the "Xenoblade Chronicles 3D."

Nintendo also confirmed that the XL version of the handset is the only version of the New 3DS that will be coming out in the United States. The customizable and smaller versions have been made available only in Japan and Europe, with two models having been released in Japan last year and two to come out in Europe last year.

The company explained that the limited release in America was because they felt that the smaller version will not sell well in the country, and fans don't seem to be too pleased with that news. It remains to be seen if Nintendo ever releases the smaller version to North America, maybe even later this year if there are numerous demands.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL will come out on Feb. 13 in North America for $199.99. It will be available in New Red and New Black colors.
