According to Hollywood Life, things got particularly "awkward" for the 26-year-old 'Vampire Diaries' actress at the Golden Globes after party.

Apparently, Nina Dobrev was confronted by her ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, and his significant other, Nikki Reed, during the festivities.

However, reports have prided her on her ability to keep it together and rather classy in the unfortunate event.

It was also noted that Nina's particular situation with actor Ian Somerhalder is unique in that he is actually her co-star on the popular romance series.

"[It gets awkward] especially when you play lovers on a hit show, And then double especially when your ex Ian starts dating and then falls head over heels for one of your good friends - Nikki Reed," writes Hollywood Life.

They go on to add:

"And there's no way you can avoid him when you have scenes together - even love scenes - and then he even brings Nikki to the set sometimes."

The situation sounds difficult, but only prompts an important rule of thumb in the industry. Don't date in the workplace.

Nina reportedly handled the encounter by simply distancing herself as it was grossly obvious that the couple wasn't going to hide their affection for each other.

"It was really uncomfortable because ... Nikki and Ian were glued at the hip and had some serious PDA, kissing throughout the night," Hollywood Life cites from an eyewitness, "Nina avoided Ian and Nikki like the plague."

Fortunately the night ended peacefully and nothing erupted between the two parties. It was reported that they did come into contact, but a simple hello was all that followed.

Hollywood Life provided their personal opinion on the falling out of the two:

"You and Ian had a great relationship for a couple of years, but you realized that you were too young young to settle down. You weren't ready to make a longterm commitment to Ian, so you two needed to part ways.

Ian at 36, is older and in a different place mentally than you are. Nikki may also feel ready to make a deeper commitment having already been married to Paul MacDonald.

"You can't control that. You were ready to move on from your romance with Ian and so you did what was right for you," THR writes.
