Nina Dobrev Spoilers, News: 'Vampire Diaries' Creator Tried to Convince Actress to Stay

Last week, Julie Plec, the creator if the show Vampire Diaries, spoke out about the exit of Nina Dobrev, lead actress, from the series.

She discussed the matter during a KCRW podcast. Plec says that Dobrev, who plays Elena Gilbert on the show, wanted to leave the series without having any hard feelings or drama between herself and the remainder of the cast and crew.

Plec stated, "She was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama. This is taking the personal out of it completely, from a storytelling point of view it's a great challenge. As writers in the room, we're finding it very rejuvenating, Just on a strictly creative exercise level."

Plec also discussed that she made attempts at talking Dobrev into remaining on the series, but she was not successful.

Apparently, earlier this year when Dobrev first said that she wanted to leave the show, Plec and the other writers tried to convince her to change her mind. However, Dobrev was firm in her resolve, stating that she was ready to move on.

Plec also explained why the news about Dobrev's exit was shared through Instagram. In a statement made to US Weekly, she said that a lot of people were shocked, and the reality of it is bittersweet.

Dobrev plays the main character, and Plec recognizes that a lot of the show's teenage fan base has a deep attachment to the character. Thus, she decided that the fans had to have some kind of warning of the character's leave.
