Nina Dobrev 2015 News: ‘The Vampire Dairies’ Star Joins ‘The Final Girls’ Cast [VIDEO]

'The Vampire Diaries' star Nina Dobrev has officially joined the cast of 'The Final Girls,' whose trailer was released online recently. Dobrev will be starring opposite 'American Horror Story' star Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman in a modern adaptation of 'Scream Queens,' the slasher film genre.

Quoting a report in Variety, Latin Post states that 'The Final Girls' was screened earlier this year at the SXSW Festival. In the movie, Farmiga portrays the character of the daughter of an actress - portrayed by Akerman. The character ends up into her mother's film along with her friends. Dobrev, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch, Adam DeVine and Alexander Ludwig feature as Farmiga's friends in 'The Final Girls.'

Meanwhile, MTV reports that the trailer shows the entire cast being transported into the film within a film titled 'Camp Bloodbath.' In the inner film, the characters are targeted by murderous villain and are seen working together to come out alive.

The 'The Final Girls' trailer also displays the comedic relief of film, which includes mocking '80s pop culture and making fun of the present day teenage habits, such as taking selfies in improper situations.

In a recent interview with Collider, Dobrev's colleagues in the film admitted that most possibly 'The Vampire Diaries' star would survive being stuck in a horror movie. During the interview, the 26-year-old Dobrev described her character Vicki as a vixen, but clarified that she will be the character who will get things done.

According to the Inquisitr, Dobrev revealed at the Los Angeles screening of the film that she's expects to explore various different genres after having ended her run on the CW series, 'The Vampire Dairies.'

'The Final Girls' is set for release on Oct. 9.
