Nikki Reed News: 'Twilight Star' Testifies for Animal Rights & Helps Pass New Bill - Ian Somerhalder Posts Message of Support

Nikki Reed, a famous actress, known for her role in the hit young adult film 'Twilight', is also apparently an animal rights activist. She recently went over to the state's capital in California to testify for Assembly Bill 147.

The Assembly Bill 147 is said to be a bill protecting cats and dogs which have been used for testing and suffered serious harm to have the opportunity to be adopted and live the rest of their lives in peace. Thanks to Reed, the bill had a very influential spokesperson.

"Animals used for science should not be discarded-the cruelty that they endure being used for research purposes is harsh enough," Reed captioned on a post in Instagram. "Let's not further the abuse by claiming the rescues are not equipped to help them live out the rest of their lives peacefully," she added.

Reed herself is apparently moved by the portions of the bill as she owns a pet that underwent animal testing and now is being taken-cared of by the sweet actress. Posting a photo of her dog, Reed wrote: "The holes in her ears are a testament to the horror she endured," she wrote on social media. "#AB147 @Beaglefreedom," she added.

After her session at the State Capitol in California last Tuesday, the bill was passed as shared by Reed. "We did it! Higher Ed passed #AB147!!!" she shared with followers on Instagram. "What a long day, a beautiful day, a day that has left me with a fire burning inside my soul-round two is next-Senate, here we come! The fight isn't over, but thanks to all of you-the thousands of you that called in earlier-we cleared the first hurdle. I love you guys. Truly. @beaglefreedom," she added.

Meanwhile, Reed's fiancé and 'The Vampire Diaries' star Ian Somerhalder also posted a message on Instagram supporting his fiancé. "Wishing I could be there to support @iamnikkireed and the bill she is testifying in favor of," he wrote on Instagram.

"I am hoping we bring awareness to an issue that most don't know anything about. Testing on beagles for research purposes and then simply discarding them is nothing short of inhumane," he continued adding, "Let's shine a light on the truth behind how we come to deem products acceptable for human use. @beaglefreedom."
