NFL News 2015: Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel Checks into Treatment Center
Johnny Manziel, former Heisman Trophy winner and Cleveland Browns QB, known to live "life to the fullest," missed Sunday's Super Bowl event. This, however, was not because of any health issues.
The 22-year-old Cleveland Browns QB was checked into a treatment facility last Wednesday. The situation was made public on Monday Feb. 2 morning by Brad Beckworth (Manziel's advisor) and Brown's GM Ray Farmer.
"Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate, and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," Beckworth said in a statement.
Notably, Manziel has been in the news in the recent season not because of his on-field tactics. Before the season started, Manziel was in headlines for partying and drinking atop an inflated swan in Austin.
In addition to this, Manziel was arrested in 2012 for his part in a bar fight in Texas just before winning the Heisman Trophy. He later pleaded guilty to failing to properly identify himself to police.
"Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns," Farmer (Browns GM), said, "We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player."
On a side note, Manziel completed 18 of 35 passes for 175 yards, throwing two interceptions and running for one touchdown in two starts in this season.
