NFL Live Stream Free News: League Partners with Yahoo to Stream First Web Game Online
The NFL made history recently by announcing that one of its games will be available online via live stream when it partnered with Yahoo! Inc. The partnership will be bringing the league's International Series game in London pitting the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 25. The game will be delivered across all Yahoo properties, which include Yahoo, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Screen and Tumblr.
"The NFL has always been committed to being at the forefront of media innovation. Through this partnership with Yahoo"”one of the world's most recognizable digital brands"”we are taking another important step in that direction as we continue to closely monitor the rapidly evolving digital media landscape," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said.
As noted by CBSSports, the NFL is banking on Yahoo's global audience, digital advertising capabilities, and delivery platforms, which span across desktop, mobile devices, connected TVs, and set-up boxes that will make the Bills-Jaguars game accessible on just about any screen globally.
"We're thrilled that the NFL has chosen Yahoo for this historic opportunity. It marks a significant change in the way uses can access this amazing content. The NFL and Yahoo have both long engaged football fans around the world. Our partnership provides the ultimate football experience"”with digital availability, designed for the modern fan," Yahoo president and CEO Marissa Mayer said.
According to ReCode.net, industry executives familiar with the negotiations between the NFL and the digital brand, believe Yahoo paid at least $20 million for the rights to stream the game. They will be looking to make up for it through having exclusive advertising rights for the game.
The CBS Sports reports points out that in keeping with the league's commitment to deliver its games on free TV, the game will also be televised in both the Buffalo (WIVB-TV), and Jacksonville (WTEV-TV) markets at 9:30 a.m. ET.
