NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Saints QB Brees Could Miss ‘Several Games’
The New Orleans Saints have had a rough start to the 2015 season and it looks like it's only going to get more difficult as quarterback Drew Brees could be out for the next several weeks as reported by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"Sources: #Saints believe QB Drew Brees has a shoulder injury that will cause him to miss games, potentially several games," Rapoport tweeted Monday.
As noted by CBSSports.com, the Saints' quarterback injured his shoulder during Sunday's 26-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The injury appeared to have occurred early in the second quarter.
"I didn't see it until watching the film today, you want to make sure he;s healthy and he's upright," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "He takes that shot, and obviously that can affect you once you get hit like that. So we've gotta be better in protection. Too many times he was getting hurried."
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, meanwhile, reports that the Saints are looking to see how Brees' shoulder responds to treatment before making any decisions on their quarterback situation. La Canfora points out that while the team is reserving Brees injury situation the benefit of the doubt, his status for the Saints' game against the Carolina Panthers is doubtful.
The team has made no official comment on Brees status despite the quarterback admitting to discomfort in his shoulder.
"Maybe on a few throws," Brees said. "I want to say a few balls downfield didn't come out very well."
Brees went 24 of 28 for 255 yards with one touchdown during the loss to the Bucs.
"Everybody's dealing with something," Brees, who did not leave Sunday's game, said. "Just gotta get a little stronger, that's all."
Should Brees miss significant time, CBSSports.com notes that they could go with backup quarterback Luke McCown, or even give rookie Garrett Grayson some time on the field.
