NFL 2015 News: Dolphins Sign Ndamukong Suh for $114 Million Deal - Randall Cobb Sticks with Packers
The Miami Dolphins have been widely regarded as the favorites to land Detroit Lions' defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, despite a lot of teams league-wide having cap space to sign the coveted player.
And recently, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said that the Dolphins will be signing Suh for an estimated $114 million over six years, $60 million of which is guaranteed. While nothing can be made official until Tuesday, any significant change in the figures would come out as a surprise.
According to The Detroit Free Press, the Lions offered Suh $17 million per year, with $58 million being guaranteed--$2 million per year less than what the Dolphins are reportedly offering.
As noted by Shutdown Corner, should the deal push through, it would set a new high for NFL defensive players. Last year, the Houston Texas and defensive end J.J. Watson set the bar with a $100 million deal, $51.8 of which was guaranteed.
Prior to this pending deal, the biggest defensive guarantees, as reported by Yahoo Sports, were $47.368 for Patrick Peterson, $51.5 for Gerald McCoy, and the fore mentioned figures for Watson.
On the other side of the spectrum, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Randall Cobb has decided to stay with the Green Bay Packers for a four-year contract worth $40 million.
It was previously rumored that Cobb could have received as much as $11-12 million per year from teams with cap space like the Oakland Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars. It is said that Cobb decided to stay for another run at the Super Bowl, with the Packers' loaded offense placing them as one of the favorites coming into 2015.
As noted by Yahoo Sports, the Packers secretly had reservations about giving Cobb north of $10 million per year, having just signed No. 1 receiver Jordy Nelson to four years and $39 million.
Cobb finished second to Nelson in catches (98-91), yards (1,519-1,287), and TDs 13-12).
