Next-Gen Xiaomi Mi Band Successor News: New Device to Incorporate Heart-Rate Monitor

A latest online leak of the Mi Band successor shows that Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is exploring the wearable space further, as it wishes to capitalize on the huge success of the original Mi Band fitness tracker. Recently, the Mi Band successor, dubbed as Mi Band 1S, was spotted with major upgrades in a listing on a Taiwanese certifications website.

Christian Today reports that the leaked image on Taiwan's National Communications Commission reveals a mystifying sensor on the rear side of the device, suggesting that the new fitness tracker may come with an integrated heart-rate monitor. According to Engadget, the exterior design of the alleged Mi Band 1S looks similar to the original Mi Band, which suggests major tweaks on the specifications and features, instead of the device's appearance.

Like the Mi Band fitness band, the upcoming fitness tracker also comes with a removable strap, three LEDs on the aluminum cap as well as charging units on the capsule. It is expected that the Mi Band 1S will incorporate the entire features of its predecessor alongside a number of new ones. The user will be able to pair the Mi Band 1S with Android smartphones to track steps, sleep and burnt calories in addition to helping unlock the smartphone without entering the passcode.

According to the report, Xiaomi has contributed a lot towards the growth of wearables sales, which witnessed a 200 percent increase in the Q2 2015. Currently, the Xiaomi Mi Band competes with other wearables like FitBit Charger HR, YuFit and others. Notwithstanding the limited supply of the Mi Band fitness tracker globally, the market share of Xiaomi in the wearables department increased by 24.5 percent during the first quarter of this year.

By incorporating heart-rate monitor, Mi Band 1S is sure to attract many potential buyers. If the success of the original fitness tracker from Xiaomi was any indication, Mi Band 1S will also have an inexpensive price tag.

While Xiaomi is yet to make an official announcement regarding the existence of the Mi Band 1S, it is likely to do so soon along with announcing the official release date of the device.
