The New York Rangers will face the Carolina Hurricanes on January 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

The Rangers (27-15-4) are attempting to prevent a potential three game losing streak when they host their Metropolitan rival the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

"An inch there, an inch here, we might have been able to beat their goaltender," said New York head coach Alain Vigneault to reporters in reference to their recent loss versus Montreal.

"They got the goal that made the difference."

Previously, New York were defeated by the Canadiens by a final score of 1-0, where Rangers offense was stopped by Montreal goalie Carey Price on January 29.

"I don't expect him (Canadiens left winger Max Pacioretty) to shoot. When I am about to push to my left, I got stuck in the post. There is no excuse. I have to expect him to shoot, even though it's a tough angle," said Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist to reporters after he made 24 saves in the defeat.

"I have to stop it. This is on me, and it's a tough feeling."

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes (17-25-5) are attempting to stretch their current winning streak to four games when they clash with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Recently, the Hurricanes defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning to the by a final score of 4-2, where Carolina players Eric Staal and Nathan Gerbe each had a goal and an assist in the victory on January 27.

"It was huge. Playing catch-up hockey is losing hockey in this league. We want to start on time. It's part of the culture we want to establish, and we've done that here recently," said Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters to reporters.

"It's been a good month. Guys have improved and we've continued to grow. It's all a process and a plan and we'll just continue to work the plan."
