New York Knicks NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Phil Jackson Looking to Trade First Round Draft Pick?

With the New York Knicks seemingly sitting as the worst NBA team of the season, the odds for getting the number one pick in this year's NBA lottery are high. However team President Phil Jackson could be looking into trading the top pick in order to look for more options in trying to get potential stars on his team.

According to ESPN, Jackson is looking at rebuilding the team from the basically the bottom up this summer. He and other scouts have been going to a lot of college games to see potential candidates. Sources say that some of the biggest free agents that the team has been looking at are Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell, Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns and Duke's Jahil Okafor.

NBA rules state that the Knicks can't trade the pick before choosing someone. However, they can choose a team member and then trade that player once the pick has been made.

If they do this, then it gives Knicks the chance to pick two potential stars to play alongside their best player Carmelo Anthony. A Big Three would be a big boost to the team if they decide to trade their pick.

However, some sources feel that with Anthony's age of 31 and countless surgeries, the Knicks trading their pick is a bad idea. Yaron Weitzman from SB Nation said, "This kind of impulsive, look-at-the-shiny-pieces-screw-the-future mentality was exactly what Jackson was supposed to fix when he got hired. If he were to make this move, he'd become just another high-priced, big-name Knicks executive clearly in over his head."

The determination of each NBA's slot for picking new team member won't happen until late May after the NBA's draft lottery.
