The New York Islanders, currently 24-11-1 and 2nd in Metropolitan Division, are looking to continue their domination in the NHL standings when they face-off against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
New York recently defeated the Washington Capitals by a score of 4-3 in a game that went into overtime. The grueling match up took place at December 29 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York.
In the game, Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk's power-play goal at 2:52 into overtime boosted the Islanders over the Washington Capitals, after New York threw away yet another three-goal lead on Monday night.
"We showed resilience, and thankfully got the win," Boychuk said to reporters after the game, "Even though momentum shifted, you can't get down. We did a good job trying to get the win, and we did."
On the other hand, the Winnipeg Jets (19-11-7, 4th in Central Division) are looking to bounce back from their Monday night loss, when they go head-to-head against New York Islanders on December 29.
The Jets lost to the Minnesota Wild by a score of 3-2 in a game where Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper had 28 saves (after missing a game due to food poisoning) and Marco Scandella scored the tie-shattering goal with 12 seconds left in the second period.
This marked the Jets' first loss in regulation in their past six games. Moreover, Jets RW Michael Frolik and C Mathieu Perreault both scored on the power play for the Jets.
"We feel comfortable to play with the lead, but after the second period we said we are one goal short. We want to feel comfortable in those situations, too, so we just want to go there and have a push," Frolik said to reporters after the game.
The game begins at 5:00 pm ET and it can be viewed on TV via the MSG+ network or online through live stream by clicking here.
