New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals Preview, Live Stream Link: How to Watch NHL Game Online
The New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals will be meeting in a playoff series for the first time in 22 years. The Islanders won that series back in 1993, but it's an entirely different pair of teams that will be facing off in 2015.
"They're a big, heavy team," said Islanders forward Kyle Okposo. "They play a hard game; they finish their checks. It's gonna be a physical series. We're going to have to use our legs, use what got us here, and that's our speed. It's going to be a hell of a series."
The man to watch coming into the matchup will undoubtedly be Alex Ovechkin, who scored 53 goals this season on his way to winning his third consecutive Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy. He's also a big part of the Capitals' league-best power play, setting a franchise record with 25 power play goals. That will be a crucial art of the series as the Islanders have been dismal with their penalty-killing, ranking just 26th in the league.
Said Islanders' captain John Tavares of Ovechkin, "Not only does he score goals, but he's physical and he does a lot of things [other than] just put the puck in the net."
The 24-year-old Tavares will look to match Ovechkin, coming into the series just a point behind the league-point scoring title. He set a career-high this season with 38 goals and 86 points. The last time the Islanders were in the postseason, Tavares had two goals and five points in six games against the Penguins.
"That experience helps us. I don't think we're going to have that shock in Game 1 like we did in that series. You know, spotted them a game. You can't do that in a series," Okposo said.
Game 1 between the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 pm and can be watched online via live stream here.
