New ‘Spider-Man’ Actor News: Marvel Selects Tom Holland to Play Peter Parker
Ending several months of speculations, finally Marvel has announced the name of the actor who will be playing 'Spider-Man' in the upcoming superhero movie. According to reports, 19-year-old British actor and dancer Tom Holland will now take over the role from Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
A latest report in IB Times states that the upcoming 'Spider-Man' will be the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is scheduled for release on July 28. This untitled flick will be a stand-alone movie of the web-spewing superhero. However, prior to this, the new 'Spider-Man' will appear in Marvel's upcoming movie 'Captain America: Civil War,' which will also feature several other superheros from Marvel comic books.
According to reports, the upcoming version of 'Spider-Man' will be a kid, and it remains to be seen how the 19-year-old actor will be stand firm against veterans like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie.
Meanwhile, not everyone is happy with Marvel casting Holland for the role, as Marvel had teased a more different, to be precise an African-American, 'Spider-Man.'
On the other hand, talking to Newsarama, Stan Lee, the co-creator of the character for the Marvel comic books, revealed that Peter Parker would always be white as well as heterosexual. "I wouldn't mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way," Lee said, adding, "But we originally made him white. I don't see any reason to change that."
At the same time, Lee expressed his opinion about Spidey's sexuality. He said, "I think the world has a place for gay superheroes, certainly. But again, I don't see any reason to change the sexual proclivities of a character once they've already been established. I have no problem with creating new, homosexual superheroes."
