New Orleans Pelicans NBA 2015 NEws: Strength Coach Says ‘Anthony Davis [Is] Stronger Than He’s Ever Been’

22-year-old Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans is already widely considered the league's next megastar and the second or third best player behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant, but hasn't kept him from expanding his already versatile game.

As noted by CBSSports.com, under strict orders from new head coach Alvin Gentry, Davis has been working on his three-point shot all summer. But that's not all, as according to Pelicans head strength and conditioning coach Jason Sumerlin, the "Brow" has also been putting in work in the weight room, adding more muscle and strengthening his core.

As reported on the team's website, with camp one month away, Davis is now 12 pounds heavier than his playing weight last season, adding muscle to bulk up to 253 pounds, while maintaining 10 percent body fat.

"He has been lifting consistently, doing allthe small things perfectly and efficiently, Sumerlin revealed of Davis' work. "We are more consistent in his lifts and corrective exercises. He's lifted a lot more weight - he's stronger than he's ever been."

As pointed out by the CBSSports.com report, Davis has been able to put in extra work without a lengthy commitment to USA Basketball this offseason. The former Kentucky Wildcat has spent a combined total of eight weeks in Los Angeles and Anguilla working with Sumerlin.

"He's going to get stronger, faster, quicker and more explosive this year," said Sumerlin. "He talks about it all the time. He feels it. His trunk ability is a huge thing. Whenever he has been down low with the big guys, he kind of collapses (at his midsection). He's starting to understand how to use his body more efficiently now."

An MVP candidate last year, Davis averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.9 blocks and 1.5 steals in 68 games for the Pelicans.
