New Nintendo Console News: Developer Shigeru Miyamoto Confirms Upcoming Plans for Next Systems

Video game designer and producer Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo recently confirmed that his company is planning the release of new consoles in the near future. While he did not specifically say what kind of consoles they'd be releasing, he did say that there would be more than one.

Miyamoto went into detail about what Nintendo is focusing their efforts on at the moment, and that's hardware for the Wii U. Additionally, he made mention that fans of the company's products should also watch out for upcoming Wii U software releases.

In an interview with the Associated Press the video game developing legend said, "It seems like we've managed to do that this year and people are very happy with what we've done on Wii U. For the time being, our focus is on the Wii U hardware, but Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems."

Adding, "While we're busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be."

Evidently, fans should keep an eye out for more information about what the new systems will actually turn out to be, and which game series will be the first to launch on them.

On that note, Miyamoto suggested that the next big 'Mario Bros.' series game will release on the new system. However, he did not confirm this, so it remains strictly speculation.

He said, "From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era. I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game."

On a side note, there have also been rumors floating around about an upcoming 'Mario Bros.' based feature film. When asked about this, he responded rather ambiguously.

"It's not very unusual, and it's something we've been doing for a very long time. I don't particularly have a vision that the next iteration of 'Mario' is going to be in film."

Beyond all that, Nintendo fanatics can only hope that the company will release more information about the new and upcoming gaming systems from the super popular video game developer.
