Nintendo 3DS XL Release Date News: New & Improved Consoles Ship to U.S. on Feb. 13
Japanese console manufacturer and game developer Nintendo has just announced that it will start shipping the new 3DS XL console to North America as well as Europe on Feb. 13. The new improved handheld console will come in two special editions - red and black, and will be available for $200.
According to GameSpot, Nintendo had released the 3DS XL in Japan, Australia and New Zealand in 2014, but had not announced the release date for the U.S. and Europe thus far.
The report further states that as of now, Nintendo does not have any plan to offer the standard-sized, non-XL 3DS systems in North America. In fact, the standard-sized consoles have the same hardware specifications and are really distinctive because they also support custom faceplates. In October 2014, the company shipped these smaller versions together with the New Nintendo 3DS XL in Japan.
However, thus far, Nintendo has not said anything about its plan to introduce these smaller consoles in the U.S. also.
Even gamers in Europe will be availing the regular-sized 3DS XL models, which will come in black or white. The 3DS XL, on the other hand, is available in black or blue.
Nintendo has announced two special launch units for North America as well as Europe - including a Majora's Mask edition, which comes with the 3D reboot of the N64 classic pre-installed. In addition, there is a Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Edition, which will come packaged with the game.
The New Nintendo 3DS XL will come with several hardware improvements compared to the original model, which first launched in March 2011. The console will come with a small C-Stick beside its face buttons, which will work effectively as a second analog stick.
In addition, the device will have two new shoulder buttons - ZL and ZR, together with what Nintendo calls a "Super-Stable 3D" that will widen viewing field of the stereoscopic 3D.
