New Nexus Smartphone News: Huawei Collaborating with Google on New Nexus Handset, Release in 2015

Latest reports state that an official of Huawei, a Chinese telecommunication major, has confirmed that they are working with Google to develop the new Nexus smartphone, which is scheduled for release this year.

A report in IB Times states that early this year, speculations were rife that the search engine giant will come out with two new Nexus smartphones - one by the company's former partner, LG (which made the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5), and the second by Huawei.

While tech experts and enthusiasts were not surprised to know that Google was once again partnering with LG for the new Nexus smartphone, they questioned the authenticity of the reports regarding collaboration with Huawei.

However, such rumors were put to rest when an insider in the Huawei UK division confirmed to IB Times (UK) that the company has already entered into a joint venture agreement with Google to manufacture the 2015 flagship Nexus smartphone.

According to the report, the tipster, however, declined to offer any further detail regarding the joint venture agreement or the specifications of the upcoming smartphone.

However, the Huawei insider acknowledged the company's collaboration with Google will help enhance the Huawei's brand value in the West. Incidentally, some months ago, it was alleged that Huawei was in collusion with the Chinese government, and, hence, the company was considered to be a national threat to the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Chinese telecommunications major has made notable achievements in the European market with its Honor series smartphones. In fact, this has helped the company to make a place in the top five smartphone manufacturers' chart. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), 2015 first quarter results showed that Huawei stands at the fourth position, just below Samsung, Apple and Lenovo respectively.

Now, having secured the Nexus project, Huawei is looking to make inroads in the U.S. market.

Going by the rumors, the Nexus smartphone to be made by Huawei is code named 'Angler' and it is expected to be a phablet. Precisely speaking, the upcoming device will be the successor to 5.96-inch Motorola Nexus 6. On the other hand, the 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5 (2015) has been code named "Bullhead" and it is likely to be the upgraded version of the 2014 Nexus model, code named "Hammerhead".

In terms of specifications, the Google-Huawei's Nexus device (Angler) is likely to come with a 5.7-inch QHD (2560x1440p) resolution and ship with Snapdragon 810 SoC (System on Chip) and run on Android M OS out-of-the-box.
