New Movie Trends 2015: Sci-Fi Dominates the Big Screen with Superheroes and 'Star Wars'
The comic-con crowd, previously considered a niche audience with limited options, will be immensely pampered this year as 2015 is the year "the geeks shall inherit the cinema."
2015 calendar year marks an epic year for films with the biggest science fiction franchises set to grace the screen with their return. Led by the likes of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," studios are looking to cash in on some of the most popular franchises in movie history.
Viewers who adore the sci-fi genre and fantasy should get prepared for a feast. They will be able to indulge in their idolization for superheroes, secret agents, scary machines, dangerous dinosaurs and anything more the mind can conjure up.
The list of geeky movies being premiered this year includes new chapters of "The Avengers," "Terminator," "Jurassic Park" and "Star Wars." This fantastical list also includes reboots of "The Fantastic Four" and Adam Sandler in "Pixels."
"Fanboys and fangirls are a force to be reckoned with, and in 2015 they're going to manifest and create the biggest box-office year ever," says Rentrak analyst Paul Dergarabedian. He also predicts that "this summer will crack the $5 billion mark for the first time and the year overall could push past $11 billion domestically".
The year also brings joy to the faithful fans of movie sequels with the launch of the seventh "Fast & Furious" film, twenty fourth James Bond movie, fourth "Hunger Games" and the first "Fifty Shades of Grey."
With a tantalizing line up like this, there's plenty for geeks to get excited about on the movie front in 2015. Things have never been better for lovers of spandex-clad heroes, obsessive gamers and sci-fi fans.
