New LEGO Movies News: New Franchise Films Slated for Release, 'Ninjago', 'Batman', & 'LEGO Movie 2'
Yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that they will be releasing three LEGO movies that have been anticipated by fans. Dan Fellman the company's President of Domestic Distribution and Veronika Kwan, their President of International Distribution made the announcement.
The next LEGO film does not have a title as of yet, but it is a LEGO Batman feature which will be hitting the theaters earlier than originally planned.
The movie's global launch will begin domestically on February 10th, 2017. Ninjago will be released seven months after this although it was supposed to have been released in fall 2016.
The film is still in production, so its release date is being moved to September 22nd, 2017 domestically, and sometime after that internationally. The Lego Movie Sequel, which will follow the hit, The Lego Movie is opening a week earlier than originally planned, set to hit theaters domestically on May 18th, 2018.
This will begin the worldwide release of the movie. Dan Fellman stated that the production company is very excited about the upcoming LEGO animated features, which are already globally popular, based on the responses to the first film.
He also says that the three new films are only the beginning of what will come for years down the line. Kwan stated that Warner Bros is looking to expand the LEGO film franchise on a worldwide scale using the three movies, with each one "offering something different to appeal to a broad range of audiences around the world."
Jill Wilfert, who is the Vice President of Licensing and Entertainment from the LEGO group, also added that LEGO is glad to continue their creative partnership with Warner Bros. on the upcoming projects, and is amazed at the way the movies add another dimension to the LEGO world.
