New Jolla Tablet Release Date News: First Crowdfunded Device Breaks $1 Million Mark in Just Two Days
Finnish mobile startup company, Jolla, posted its upcoming tablet last week via crowdfunding website Indiegogo, and in less than 48 hours since the launch, it has already raised about $1.2 million, which is way past its initial funding goal of $380,000.
The company made quite a stir when they announced the launch, and the figures only validated the fans' excitement over the tablet, which is the first ever in the world to be powered by the Sailfish Operating System.
Prior to the kickoff of the campaign, Jolla's co-founder Marc Dillon told TechCrunch about his prediction that the product will "sell out."
"I believe that we will quickly see the small initial targets, we will put up some stretch goals. I think that we're going to sell a lot of tablets," Dillon said, and true to his words, the tablet did cause a lot of excitement when it debuted.
Much of the reason why Jolla's iPad alternative have smashed its funding goal is not only because it is sold for less than $200, which is way less than the cost of other high-end tablets, but also because of its sleek look and great specifications.
According to Indiegogo's description of the tablet, it said "Jolla Tablet's Sailfish operating system will be unlike anything you've tried before. Once you try it, you'll never want to go back."
The Jolla's tablet is Android compatible, which means that it can not only run with Sailfish OS apps, but also on Android apps.
The tablet itself has a 7.9 inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and is powered with a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.
It also boasts a 5 megapixel primary camera and 2 megapixel on its front plus a 4,300 mAh battery and a microSD card slot.
Meanwhile, in celebration of passing its $1 million mark for the tablet, the company offered a €100 cut-off in its smartphone for European customers who purchased the item via online show. The offer is scheduled to last till Tuesday.
